Üsküdar Coastal Road, Section 1

Üsküdar Coastal Road Section 1 Landscape Design Project

The Üsküdar Coast Section 1 Project covers a 2,600-metre stretch starting from Harem in the south and running along the coast to the radar tower in the north. The new layout provides a 6.5 m carriageway + 0.7 m median + 6.5 m carriageway, leaving a minimum 2 m sidewalk on the land side, with one lane in each direction able to serve as parking and bus bays. On the sea side, the "pedestrian path and cycle path" have been designed on the same level as a shared promenade, so that both modes can be used together, especially where the coastal road narrows. As the pedestrian paths, which narrow to 180 cm in places, will be used together with the cycle track, the pedestrian route will be at least 410 cm wide, and the cycle path will continue uninterrupted for 2,500 m from Harem to Üsküdar Gezi Park. Throughout the project, arrangements for pedestrian use were made along the coast, prioritising comfortable circulation, recreational activities, resting and viewing opportunities. From Harem towards Üsküdar, the coast offers spaces for sitting, walking, skating and cycling. Two "selfie" viewing terraces have also been provided along the shore. With this project, a modern coastal road and waterfront pedestrian areas have been created on the Bosphorus and opened to public use together with their surroundings.
