Samsun 19 Mayıs Coast Landscape Design Project, Phase 1
The 19 Mayıs Coast, approximately 20 km long and extending from the Horhor Stream east of the Samsun Kızılırmak protection area to Atakum Port, has been divided into 3 phases; this project covers Phase 1, the 6 km section between Kurupelit Port and the Police College. This phase was developed under the theme "Samsun Living Coast" with a holistic design approach.
The project creates five squares with different themes. Linked to each other by the coastal promenade, these squares aim to offer an uninterrupted coastal experience. Each square is designed for different activities and experiences, so that visitors encounter a rich variety along the coast.
The Story of the Squares
-
Sun Square: An ideal place for those who want to greet the sunrise and start the day with energy. With sun loungers, moonstone furniture and a wide open space, this square is intended for resting and enjoying the sun.
-
Sea Square: This square is designed for those who want to fully enjoy the sea and the sand. Filled with sea-themed play equipment, marine life figures and light shows, it is intended to become a centre of attraction, especially for children.
-
Ata Square: Symbolising the first step of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey, in Samsun, this square features Atatürk's words about Samsun designed as an urban object, the first-step symbol embedded in the paving, and decorative swings and lighting representing his childlike energy and affection, making it a truly special place.
-
Youth Square: A square reflecting the energy and enthusiasm of young people. With amphitheatre steps, a stage, objects symbolising rhythm and kinetic steel spheres, it is intended to host concerts, performances and other events.
-
