Ortaköy Square Urban Design Project

Ortaköy Square and Çırağan Avenue Urban Design Project

Ortaköy Square and its surroundings are dominated by food and beverage uses, with tourism accommodation and services to the west, and the area has intense pedestrian use. The most important feature of the square is the Grand Mecidiye Mosque (Ortaköy Mosque), one of the symbols of Istanbul, which stands as a "landmark". Solutions were developed for the problems that had restricted the use of the square and its connected edges over time, and the area was redesigned within the framework of the current Conservation Zoning Plan and legislation, supporting and renewing the historic environment through the use of the square. With specially designed elements, an innovative design approach sensitive to history has been demonstrated.
