Aksaray Seljuk Park Project

During the conversion of the existing TMO grain silos in the city centre into a park after their demolition, the existing tree cover on the site was fully preserved and the design was developed accordingly. The identity of the park reflects the theme of Aksaray's Seljuk history. The northern entrance of the park is crowned by a symbolic gate adapting the portal of the "Ulucami" (Great Mosque), one of Aksaray's most important historic elements, and Seljuk motifs to contemporary modernism, and the park entrance is defined at an optimal scale by the "Seljuk Square". With its day and night appearance, the symbolic gate will become a new and important landmark of Aksaray.
The Seljuk Square is a forecourt that allows for various events, featuring motifs inspired by historic Seljuk works, a specially lit floor with dynamic fountains and mist effects, and seating and viewing areas around it.
Beyond it, the "Divan Yolu" has been designed: a pedestrian promenade depicting the Seljuk sultans, with 18 pedestals on both sides, each carrying chronological information about a sultan and topped with animated LED neon lights. The pedestal design references and reinterprets the "Crooked Minaret", one of Aksaray's key symbols, integrating it into the park design.
The park also includes a children's playground, a fitness area, various planting display areas, walking paths, and seating and resting areas.
Throughout the Seljuk Park, materials suited to the surroundings and resistant to the climate have been used, predominantly natural stone, and the park is complemented by contemporary and original urban furniture.
Various open-air activities can be organised in the Seljuk Park; with this park, a very important "theme park" has been created within Aksaray's dense urban fabric and opened to public use with its green character.
